1974 Corvette Restoration Body Work
We’re still trying to figure out why the people that have work on this Corvette in the past just could not do things right. Most of the things that they done on the car would have taken less time to do right the first time.
We have found just an amazing amount of things that should have been done differently, they did not align body panels on the car I expect just because it was taking to much time, and in one case because they didn’t know what they were doing.
On the passenger door they did some work on the A-Pillar for some reason, the A-Pillar was not damaged but they reamed out the hinge mount bolt holes to make adjustment when the car doesn’t need adjustment on the A-pillar hinge mounts.
This is something that has to be fixed to make the door align right, and just one more things for the owner of the car to deal with. Don’t get me wrong here I think that people should not take on a project if they know nothings about it.
The disc brakes were completely hacked, on the rear brakes they put new line and bent them by hand without the use of a bending tool, we have rectified this problem.
Although they probably just figured it’s not our car; let’s just blast it out of the shop and we’ll never have to deal with it again. The owner of the car will never know.
Mechanical Work:
They have done the exact same things on all of the mechanical restoration on the car. Starting by hacking the hell out of a brand new engine compartment wiring harness, and a new dash wiring harness for no apparent reason.
Not to mention the front suspension and steering on the car which none of it was done right, it was just hung on the car and left loose. It was missing grease zerks and they didn’t even bother to try to align the front end.
Rear Sway Bar:
The rear sway bar was installed wrong, the shop that worked on the car used grade 5 blots to tighten done the sway bar end links, and they had the rubber parts installed wrong.
This brings me back to what I have stated earlier, if you don’t know how to do something don’t do it. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure this out. If you do a job you should do it right the first time.
You should put yourself in the customer’s shoes and look at things from their point of view. All he wants is a nice car that him and his wife can drive, and be safe doing it it.
A nice looking car that they can enjoy, and not have to worry about; they want it to look great and be safe to drive. Not be a turd and kill them the first time they drive it. Ben is a nice guy and he didn’t deserve this kind of treatment on his car.
